Social networking is and can be just as effective, if not more so than business networking in the real world. I found this video to the left on Youtube as a great way to get you started on understanding the magnitude of social networking for business.
Do not make the mistake that social networking is a luxury activity or that it is just a bunch of noise with no value. Social networking is powerful but what may be swaying you away is understanding it clearly. We will have more to come on how to utilize social media for business networking.

I do not believe networking is about friendship hunting but more about relationship building. This includes strengthing the ones you find and removing the ones that are hurtful. Every person is not your business partner and the value they return is not discoverable. Most importantly, your relationships should and will reflect who you are as a business person.
